The life and philosophy of a man who helped to spread Indian culture in the West a sincere book
Something remained from the interest some young people in the US and the UK took in Indian music and philosophy in the 1970s. It is well known they influenced the Beatles' career, particularly George Harrison, just to mention a famous case. It is also worth mentioning the great sitar player Ravi Shankar, who popularized Indian music on Western stages. This interest also touched unknown aspirants at the time, such as Jeffrey Kagel, who wanted to be a rock star. When he got in touch with the knowledge of Indian music universe and philosophy, he found out this is what he wanted for his life and went on to discover the origin of that thing that had impressed him. He traveled to India in a pilgrimage to look for his master and, with the name Krishna Das, he plunged head first in the learning of mantras and Bhakti Yoga. Forty years later, he became the greatest disseminator of Indian music in the world, with many recorded albums and spending part of his life traveling, speaking and singing mantras. In Cantar para Viver (with a mantra CD included), Krishna Das narrates, in an autobiography, his quest in search of happiness and inner peace. In these villainous times we live today, this can sound old-fashioned, but it is actually a moving testimony.
